Our students participated in the Times Global Sustainable Development Conference in Thailand.

From June 9th to 14th, 2024, two teachers from the School of Power and Energy and the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Northwestern Polytechnical University, Song Xi and Wu Tong, led the Summer Soaring All Seas team to participate in the Times Higher Education Global Sustainable Development Congress held in Bangkok, Thailand. 69 students from 11 colleges, including the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Power and Energy, the School of Electronics and Information, the School of Automation, the School of Software, the School of Navigation, the School of Ecology and Environment, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Microelectronics, the School of Computer Science, and the School of Mechanics and Civil Engineering, had the privilege of engaging in face-to-face exchanges with experts, scholars, and industry leaders from around the world.

The theme of this conference is "Uniting Higher Education, Government, Industry, and Society to Create a Sustainable Future". It covers various aspects including basic education, higher education, sustainable development, and innovation. It lasts for 4 days and includes an opening ceremony, keynote speeches, panel discussions, and 6 thematic sub-forums. It brings together education experts, policy makers, scholars, and representatives from non-governmental organizations from around the world, aiming to explore how to achieve sustainable development and educational equality through education.

69 students from different majors at Northwestern Polytechnical University have successively participated in 6 sub-forums of their own interest based on their professional backgrounds, hobbies, etc. Through various ways such as attending the opening ceremony and keynote speeches, listening to expert reports, participating in specialized discussions and sub-forum exchanges, visiting exhibitions and collecting materials, they fully participated in this conference. The students reflected that the 6 themes of the conference were very targeted and forward-looking, and the speeches and discussions were also very rich and inspiring, benefiting everyone greatly.

Attending the 2024 Thames Global Sustainable Development Conference is a very meaningful experience for students. Through communication and learning from experts and industry leaders from around the world, students have realized the important role of youth in sustainable development. Additionally, it has expanded their international perspective, recognized the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation, re-understood innovation-driven practices, and further gained insights into their future development and career prospects, filled with hope.

The team members participating in this activity have deepened their understanding of each other, strengthened their friendship, made new friends, and left precious memories. Everyone has a profound impression on this trip to Bangkok, Thailand. It is destined to be a very meaningful and beautiful experience for everyone.

This time, the two teachers led 69 students to participate in the conference, which was very difficult. The two teachers and Professor Zou Xia from the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering handled the students' conference registration, hotel reservations, flight planning, insurance purchases, and other complicated matters in an orderly manner. They established several preparatory groups such as the conference affairs, technology, strategy, finance, and publicity, and formed several teams to implement the captain responsibility system to ensure the consistency of actions among team members. On May 31, 2024, a pre-departure training was held in Room 225 of the School of Power and Energy on the Chang'an Campus, covering policy preaching on the purpose of participation, travel requirements, confidentiality discipline, and precautions, as well as the introduction of preparatory work and travel strategies, enabling students to have a full understanding and preparation for the event. The actual situation proved that both the preparatory team members and the team leaders of each team were diligent and responsible with outstanding performance, they also experienced growth during the exercise. The successful completion of this activity could not have been achieved without the dedication of these outstanding backbone members.

Attending the Global Sustainable Development Conference in Thailand as part of our school's "Flying Across the Seas" summer program, we were accompanied by leaders from the International Cooperation Office and other departments. From the preparation to the conference, they closely followed up on every detail with the attending students, and even took a group photo with them on the day of the conference. Following this conference, our school will continue to adhere to the concept of "openness, cooperation, and win-win", actively participate in international exchanges and cooperation, and contribute more Chinese wisdom and strength to the cause of global sustainable development.
